I just returned from my great experience of Youth Conference! I did not believe I was going to have so much FUN! We went up to Utah State University where we had the chance to stay in dorms along with 5 other groups from all over Utah! For those three great days we did a billion things. We started out with swimming. It was fun, but a little stupid. We hardly new each other and were all off in our own little groups of 3 or 4 people. Oh well. We played a few get to know you games as a ward and then went star gazing! It was okay... I was a little loopy because of the 3 hours of sleep the night before. It was worth seeing Superman! Anyway, back to the subject...
Stargazing! We looked at different planets through telescopes.... I had never done this before! There was the moon with all of the craters in sight along with Jupiter (with 4 moons), Mars (very red), Saturn (with the ring around it), and a globular cluster! I usually only see this kind of stuff in pictures. Who knew I would have this chance!
The next day was the best ever! As a ward we played a few interesting games that taught us team work. We did all sorts of things like racing on 2 wooden logs that we couldn't fall off of (hard to explain), logic games, getting across a "river" using 6 wooden blocks, helping team mates get through a maze, etc. It was fun. After a short break and lunch, we visited the Logan temple that sits on top of a hill. The place was beautiful and we had a great history lesson out by a few trees. Returning back to campus, we prepared for the exciting Aggie Games! We mixed up with members in the other 4 groups and split into 8 groups. This was the beginning of the end! I finally met with people outside my ward. Personally, I was not too happy before this. My group started with a few games of Volleyball, then had some Aggie Ice-cream, and followed that by playing "Rock, paper scissors." Weirdest game ever! I had never heard of it before. There were 2 separate teams wearing flags and each team would agree on one object...
They banquet was okay..: P but after a super speaker, we went to the dance a half an hour late. When we arrive... NO ONE WAS DANCING! What kind of dance is this? By now, my ward and bonded and become best friends. We all headed to the middle of the floor and just started dancing! I loved how we were the life of the party! I believe I danced every song! Luckily it was in a court yard outside with beautiful landscape. I found it strange that most of the guys I danced with were from the other groups. Of course I danced with Ben along with 3 other cute friends of his. There was also Seiya Bryant... yeah... I loved dancing with him. We even talked for a little when the song was over. We have so much in common. It made me realize that I never get the chance to show my full self to people because they would never understand. I am a girl who reads Manga...Graphic novels... to others they see them as kiddish cartoons from Japan that are ridiculous... especially since you read them backwards. I was always afraid that if anyone found out that part about me that they wouldn't like me. To Seiya I could show my whole self. Around him I am free...from what I know. Of course, I just met the guy. Anyway, back to the dance. I also met this hot kid from a different part of Draper named Brandon Perry. I had a really fun conversation.... besides the parts where my ward friends rudely (jk) interrupted because they knew him. That is when it hit me... THIS was the guy they all were talking about! We were going to go on a date when conference was over, but it turned out he had work. Oh well. I went with Seiya instead (I will post about this in one of the next posts).
The dance was followed an hour and a half midnight swim! This one was a billion times better because we had all become friends and mingled with everyone from the 5 groups. I mean, I played basketball in the water with the bishop. That is kinda weird, but I loved it! I also liked the fact that I was able to spend these last few days with people who had the same values as me and wore modest clothing and swimming suits.
The next morning I woke up and went on a search for all of those guys I wanted to keep in touch with. I got Ben's number, Seiya's number, and Brandon's number! I don't know if I will ever see Ben again, but the other 2 I am going to try and hang out with because you can never have too many friends, right? Well, YC was over and we were all tired from the sun, walking, activities, and not enough sleep. I came home and wished I could have fallen to sleep, but I had somewhere to go 2.5 hours later. I learned something from this experience... if I want to go to Utah State like I planned... DONT LIVE IN THE DORMS :P Apartments are the way to go!
